National Affairs
National current affairs is the fastest-decaying part of the syllabus — nothing here is evergreen. What is stable is the method: track a fixed set of beats (government schemes, appointments, reports, indices) rather than trying to remember news as a stream.
Mental model
Do not try to remember 'the news'. Keep a fixed set of BUCKETS and drop each item into one, because the exam asks about the bucket's structure, not the headline: (1) Parliament — bills passed and what they amend, (2) Supreme Court — judgments and the article involved, (3) Economy — budget, Economic Survey, monetary policy, (4) Schemes — launching ministry and target group, (5) Reports and indices — the publishing body, (6) Institutions — new commissions and who chairs them. When you read anything, record the INSTITUTION and the LEGAL BASIS, which stay true, rather than the number of the day, which does not.

New central schemes and their objective, changes to constitutional or statutory bodies, index and report releases (Economic Survey, NITI Aayog indices), major appointments, Supreme Court judgments with wide effect, and any constitutional amendment. Almost every national current-affairs question falls in one of these six.

In detail
- The Union Budget is presented in Parliament by the Finance Minister, normally on the first day of February; the Economic Survey is tabled by the Ministry of Finance, usually a day before the Budget.
- The Economic Survey is prepared under the guidance of the Chief Economic Adviser and is a review document, not a policy commitment.
- The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee has six members — three from the RBI including the Governor as chairperson and three appointed by the central government — and decides the policy repo rate.
- A Census of India is conducted decennially; the National Sample Survey and the Periodic Labour Force Survey are the regular official sources for employment and consumption data.
- A bill becomes an Act only after passage by both Houses and assent of the President; a Money Bill can be introduced only in the Lok Sabha and only on the President's recommendation.
Where people slip
- Never carry forward a name, number or rank from an old note into an answer without checking the date it was current — current affairs is the one syllabus area where that habit actively costs marks.
